Bridge City has finally received the go ahead from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to install filters in the city’s water wells. The city has been waiting months to get approval from the TCEQ for installing the filters which is hoped will greatly eliminate the brown water in Bridge City. City Manager Jerry Jones indicated the company installing the filters will start around April 3 or 4, and the process to help clean the water will probably take another month or so after the installation is complete. Tie Vote On Certificate Pay
The Commissioners Court, the sheriff, and several deputies discussed for about an hour Tuesday continuing certificate pay for the employees of the Sheriff’ Office. Certificate pay was previously part of the collective bargaining agreement between the county and the Sheriff’s Office Employees Union for three years and has been paid voluntarily by the county since 2012. Bass Tournament April 1
Back to School Orange County is having their first annual Bass Fishing tournament on April 1st. The tournament will be held at the City of Orange boat ramp. Registration is $100 for a team (maximum of 2 people). We also have a optional big bass pot for $50 per boat. We also have door prizes donated by local vendors to giveaway to fisherman who register. OC Restaurant Inspections
County Health Inspector James Scales gave poor grades to four food businesses during the first part of March. Three had scores in the 70’s and the Vidor Jack in the Box was the lowest with a 68. Scales noted, though, he went back to the Jack in the Box three hours later and the next day to find big improvements. He made 28 inspections during the period with four getting perfect scores. Brush Fire In Orangefield
Several agencies responded to a brush fire that got out of control around noon on Tuesday. The fire started behind Claire Dr. near FM 1442. The south wind carried it away from homes but there were reports of a couple of poles that caught fire. There was also a building near a high line area that was in line with the fire. Burned Baby Under Investigation
A 7-month-old baby from Orange suffered second-degree burns Sunday night and police are investigating the cause. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont contacted police after the mother brought the baby there. He said the burns are not life-threatening. The burns appeared on the lower part of the baby's body.
