The Orangefield School Board met during the first week of April. Superintendent Dr. Stephen Patterson informed the school trustees of a record high enrollment of approximately 1800 students for the Orangefield Independent School District. Daniel Ray Frizzell, 86, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Brookdale Sherwood Retirement Center after a lengthy illness. He was born on October 30, 1930 in Shreveport, LA to Muriel & Beulah Frizzell. Ray joined the Navy at the age of 15 during WWII. He served in the Navy until 1948 and then went on to work for City Services in Lake Charles, LA., where he retired as a Plant Foreman. Ray loved to fish, go shrimping, go hunting and camping. Students Help With Soup Kitchen
Every Wednesday St. Mary Catholic Church hosts the Soup Kitchen at the parish hall for the community. This soup kitchen is organized by Johnny and Glenda Lucia, volunteers and parishioners. The Lucia's are graduates of St. Mary Catholic School. They graduated when the school still included a high school. They have lived out their Christian faith throughout their lives. As they are now both retired, they spend a large amount of their time doing as Jesus taught.
