Warrants Issued In Assault Case
Galveston County Sheriff's Office issued warrants Thursday against Deionte Thompson, Morris Joseph, Rufus Joseph and Dee Wolfford for felony aggravated assault. Morris and Rufus are students at West Orange-Stark HS, Thompson is in Alabama attending the university on a football scholarship, and Wolfford graduated several years ago from WOS. The four are charged with the beating of 18 year old Noah Frillou of Orange at Crystal Beach during Spring Break March 18. Collective Bargaining Begins
The first round of collective bargaining talks between Orange County and the Sheriff’ Office Employees Association was deemed a success by both sides Wednesday. The two parties met for about three hours in the Commissioners Courtroom. The union did not have a written proposal to offer the county. Union attorney Greg Cagle said the main negotiation points for the Sheriff’s Office employees are a provision in the contract providing job protection for the deputies and a continuation clause in the collective bargaining agreement. The city of Orange was the only one of the five largest cities in the county seeing an increase in sales taxes for February. Information from the Texas Comptroller's Office shows Orange is up 12.5 percent for sales tax payments made during the first four months of the year. The other cities, along with Orange County, are down for the year. Locked away in the Orange Police Department's Evidence Locker No. 22 is a Whizzinator, complete with prosthetic penis and Velcro straps plus urine bag. The man wearing the Whizzinator was busted Wednesday afternoon at the Orange County Adult Probabtion Department. He faces a misdemeanor charge of falsification of a drug test. The Vidor man's probation officer became suspicious after the urine specimen he gave was cold in the cup. Apparently the plan to use a hand-warmer to raise the temperature of the tee-tee didn't work. Dilapidated Homes Removed
A falling-down house in Navy Park was knocked down and the remnants removed Wednesday as part of the city of Orange's effort to improve areas. The demolition and six more are being paid through a Stark Foundation donation. City Planning Director Kelvin Knauf said the foundation gave $35,300 to the city for removing vacant and dilapidated buildings. He said the competitive bids were so good the city is able to afford to tear down seven buildings with the grant. The house removed on Wednesday was in the 200 block of Moreell Avenue.
