County Hoping For Money For 2016 Floods
Federal funds are available to help with recovery from last year’s flooding of the Sabine River, but getting Orange County’s share of that money will take some detailed procedures. The Commissioners Court held a workshop Monday to hear from two groups that specialize in getting grant monies and administrating them for government entities. Weekend Police Reports
A handful of burglaries, including one at a business, have been reported to Orange police during the past days. The business was the Star Stop at 1101 Green Avenue. The burglary was reported about 9 Thursday morning. Police said someone broke in and stole money. On Friday at 7:30 a.m., a resident in the 200 block of Dewey Avenue, called to report broken windows. The resident had been at a friend's house overnight and no one was there when she left. Police reported two windows on the back side were broken. The finals of the 113th Stark Contest in Reading & Declamation took place Sunday at the Lutcher Theatre. Connor Alexander of LCM finished first in Declamation with Jimmy Carter's "A Crisis in Confidence." Brandon Curl of Bridge City was second. In Interpretive Reading, Bree Cloud of Bridge City won with her reading of "I stand here ironing" by Tillie Olson. Kaylee Patillo of LCM was second.
