Wednesday afternoon the Pinehurst Fire Dept. responded to a fire at the former Dean's Automotive at the corner of Martin and 37th St. When they arrived they had fire and smoke coming from the side of the building. Memorial service will be held from 10:00 to 12:00 p.m., Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Eckols Funeral Home at 420 W. Live Oak St. Kenedy, Texas, 78119. Officiating will be Lupe Cantu. Born in Beeville, Texas, on July 17, 1949, he was the son of Andres Rodriguez and Lina Villarreal. 100 Years of Golf At Sunset Grove
Several groups got together after a suggestion from Deborah Bednar wanted to recognize 100 years of golf at Sunset Grove CC. That recognition came from a mural that is now painted on the back of the pro shop at the course off of Sunset Drive in Orange. A ribbon cutting was held Tuesday. Orange County, the OC Historical Society, the City of Orange, and Trey & Ross Smith provided the funds to have the 120 foot mural painted by Lauren Leigh. The course at Sunset Grove was designed by famed golf architect Donald Ross after he was contacted by W. H. Lutcher Stark in 1923. The LCM Bears will open the playoffs at home Friday night against the Lindale Eagles. The Eagles come into the game as the number four seed out of 9-4A with a 5-5 record but Coach Eric Peevey said don't let their record fool you. Lindale is a good team. "They're really good. They just come out of a tough district. Probably the toughest in the state. Coach Chris Cochran took Lindale to State in 2020 and they've been to the playoffs every year since."
