Karen was born on Monday, May 3, 1948, and has been a resident of Orange, Texas, for the last 18 years, after moving from Sulphur, Louisiana. Barbara Pessarra Soileau, 80, of Woodville and a former resident of Port Arthur passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at her home. She was born on October 6, 1936 to her parents, Edward M. Pessarra and Laverne Miller Pessarra in Port Arthur, Texas. Barbara was a longtime resident of Port Arthur, where she raised her family along with her husband, Charles. The envelopes have been opened and the phones at the Orange County Appraisal District have been ringing. Property values are up across Orange County and homeowners are not happy. The letters informing the homeowners about the new values, along with an estimated possible tax cost, have been mailed. The Appraisal District's values on land and homes are used by public entities to calculate property taxes. On Friday evening, April 28th, The Alpha Nu Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society welcomed 33 new members for the spring 2017 semester. Sezer Wins Letterman Award
Texas A&M football defensive back Alex Sezer and javelin thrower Maggie Malone won Distinguished Letterman Awards at Monday’s Fourth Annual Building Champions banquet at the Hall of Champions. Sezer, an LCM grad, was also a Bill Erwin Scholar-Athlete of the Year along with swimmer Sarah Gibson. Harmon Passes At 89
Orange native and longtime businessman Carlton "Corky" Harmon died early Wednesday morning. He was 89 and had been hospitalized recently. Harmon and his family were in the car business for decades and owned the Chevrolet dealership for many years. He traced his heritage back to the original Anglo settlers in Orange.
