Jim Brasher, 71, of Vidor died Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017 at Mid-Jefferson Extended Care in Nederland, Texas. A native of Pascagoula, Mississippi, he was a longtime resident of Vidor. Jim was a member of Pipe Fitters Local Union # 195 and was project manager at Sabine River Works for over 35 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, dove hunter and bass fisherman. One Accident, One Arrest
Three people were injured, one seriously, during a rear-end collision about 9:30 Friday morning at the intersection of FM 105 and FM 1132. Sergeant Stephanie Davis with the Texas Department of Public Safety said a Ford pickup truck was stopped at the traffic light at the intersection waiting to make a left turn onto FM 1132. A Nissan passenger vehicle slammed into the back of the pickup. The driver of the Nissan, 66-year-old Sharon Fetterrolf of Silsbee, was taken by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Candidate Files For Guidry’s Seat
The Orange City Council has a special election set for June 17 to replace Dr. Wayne Guidry, who resigned to become superintendent of the Hubbard ISD. Friday, businessman Brad Childs filed to run for Guidry's spot in the Single Member District 2. The deadline to file for the position will be 5 p.m. Monday. All candidates for the seat must live within the District 2 boundaries, which is mainly the Little Cypress are north of Interstate 10. Two Year Old Drowns
A 2-year-old boy drowned Thursday night in a pond outside of his house on Terry Road. The Orange County Sheriff's Office reported the child was flown by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont where he was later pronounced deceased. Deputy Janois Grizzaffi said the sheriff's office was called about 8 p.m. to the house in the 1500 block of Terry Road off FM 105 outside of Vidor. National Day of Prayer
Thursday was the 66th observance of the National Day of Prayer. Ceremonies were held in Orange County at Bridge City and at the Courthouse in Orange. Prayers were given by different citizens for the nation, for Israel, for the state of Texas, for the county, our nation’s military, for schools, for churches, for businesses, for families in Orange County, and a closing moment of silent prayer. Vacant House Fire Thursday
A vacant house off 16th Street was damaged by fire Thursday morning. The Orange Fire Department went to house about 6:30 a.m. to the house in the 1400 block of 15th Street, behind Walgreen's. Captain Joe Mires said when firefighters arrived, smoke was coming from the eaves. No one is living at the house, which had a 'For Sale' sign in the yard; so no injuries were reported.
