The Celebration of Life for Mrs. Dianne P. Collins, 73, of Orange, will be Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Starlight Church of God In Christ. Rites of Christian Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of Sparrow Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9 until 11 a.m. at the church. Broussard Gets 10 Years Probation
Tears came in the courtroom Monday afternoon when State District Judge Buddie Hahn announced he was giving probation to a former high school coach. The coach pleaded guilty to failure to stop and render aid when his car hit and killed a mother and young child crossing MacArthur Drive. Friends and relatives of 54-year-old Carl Broussard, the former coach, cried tears of relief. Friends of the deceased, 25-year-old Ava Nicole Lewis and her 6-year-old daughter, Lamya, cried tears of pain. Saturday afternoon DuPont Drive had to be closed to thru traffic after a car ran into a telephone pole near the corner of DuPont and Meyers. Kimberly Butler, 52, of Buna lost control of her Volkswagen Jetta, striking the pole and breaking it at the base. Entergy crews straightened and patched the pole and will replace it at a later time. Butler was given a citation for failure to drive in a single lane. CJS Wins Community Service Award
The 2017 Student Organization Community Service Award was presented to the Criminal Justice Society of Lamar state College-Orange on Thursday, May 4. Three Arrested In Kidnapping, Burglary
Three people have been arrested in the kidnapping of local attorney Jim Sharon Bearden. German Borjas-Benitez, 20, Henry Rivera-Antunez, 17, and Erik Pagoada-Bustillo, 17, all from Honduras, have confessed to the crime. On May 8, Bearden was awakened by two masked intruders at his home off E. Roundbunch near Bridge City. They tied him up while ransacking his home, taking numerous items. Man Caught Inside Bank
On Saturday, May 13, 2017, at 11:36 pm, officers with the City of Orange Police Department were dispatched to 3109 16th St. (Chase Bank) in reference to a motion alarm inside of the bank. Upon officer’s arrival, 42 year old Albert Harper was observed inside at which time he attempted to flee out of a broken window at the rear of the building. Lady Bears Win Two To Advance
After losing to Huntington 9-4 with just one hit on Thursday, the LCM Lady Bears would have to win twice on Saturday to make it to the fourth round of the 4A Softball Playoffs. They not only won but they did it in convincing fashion with wins of 7-0 and 5-0 in Jasper. Brianna Frenzel was the winning pitcher in the first game of the day, throwing a five hit shutout and striking out nine. Bobcats Finish Hawks Saturday
The Orangefield Bobcats completed a sweep of their playoff series with the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks Saturday afternoon at Port Neches-Groves. The Bobcats scored early and got a strong pitching performance from Mason Gonzales to win 5-1 in Game 2 and advance to the third round of the playoffs. Mustangs Sweep Tarkington
The West Orange-Stark Mustang baseball team completed a two game sweep of the Tarkington Longhorns Saturday with a 7-4 win in Jasper. The win sets up a series with district opponent Orangefield in the third round of the 4A playoffs. Chad Dallas was the winning pitcher, giving up four runs on seven hits in the first four innings.
