Broussard Going To Jail For Six Months
Carl Broussard, the former high school coach convicted of leaving the scene of a double fatality collision with pedestrians, will be spending nearly six months in the Orange County Jail. State District Judge Buddie Hahn, who on Monday gave Broussard probation for the felony in connection with killing a young mother and her daughter, has ordered Broussard to the Orange County Jail on June 15. Jim Sharon Bearden Jr. had a gun pointed at his head in the bedroom of his house. He also was threatened with a baseball bat and death to his family. But during an ordeal that lasted almost three hours, he kept his wits enough to send himself a text message. Three members of the City Council in Bridge City were sworn in Tuesday night. Tammi Fisette and Terri Gauthier both start their second terms on the council in Places 3 and 5 respectively. In Place 1 Carl Harbert won the election held earlier in May. Harbert replaces Kevin Mott who did not seek re-election this year. Mott was thanked for his years of service with Bridge City. Negotiations Between County, SOEA Continue
Negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement between the Sheriff’s Office Employees Association and Orange County shifted somewhat Wednesday. Previously the biggest hurdle was inclusion of a “Just Cause” provision in the proposed new contract. A new barrier maybe whether retiree benefits should be included in a new agreement. The Association says retirement benefits come with the job and should be included in a new contract.
