Kendall Gibson (left), Valedictorian from Bridge City High School, received a $1000 OCAM Scholarship. Kendall will be majoring in Engineering at TAMU. She is the daughter of Sara Gibson. Police Looking For Suspect
On May 21 at approximately 1:30 a.m. the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a call near Broussard Road and Toomey Road in Vinton in reference to a shooting. When deputies arrived they located the victim, who had been shot several times, laying on the ground and immediately rendered aid until medical personnel arrived. During further investigation detectives were able to identify the suspect in connection with the shooting as 37 year old Artemus C. Beasley. The Bridge City Cardinals playoff run is as hot as the weather was Saturday in Beaumont. The Cards are now 6-0 in the playoffs after beating Silsbee 2-1 in a walk off at Vincent-Beck Stadium. The Cards scored in the first after four straight hits (2 bunts) against Silsbee starter Noah Whitted. But Whitted would settle in and only give up one hit innings 2 thru 6. A theft and a burglary were reported to the Orange Police Department on Friday. About 9 a.m., police went to the 1500 block of Dawnwood Drive where a number of bathroom fixtures and parts stored under a carport were missing. In the early afternoon, police went to a house in the 2300 block of Pacific Street. A friend of the resident was in the backyard feeding animals and noticed a window had been forced open. She called the resident, who came home and called police. Six months after the West Orange-Stark Mustangs won their second straight football state title, the team is still being recognized. Cornel Thompson has been named Lone Star Gridiron 4A Coach of the Year. This was the Mustang's second consecutive championship win and third consecutive championship game appearance. The Mustangs finished the year with a 16-0 overall record. She graduated from Lutcher Stark High School and Stephen F. Austin University. Vera married Robert Gords in July 1974 and they have two children.
