Wednesday is the deadline for property owners to appeal the latest appraised values on real estate. The appraisal values are used to calculate property taxes set by the elected officials of entities like city councils, school boards and county commissioners. The appeals are made to the Orange County Appraisal District, which issues the appraisals. An appeal can be made through the phone at 409-745-4777. Weekend Police Reports
Orange police have questioned two juveniles concerning a series of thefts and criminal mischief damage in areas across town, Detective Captain Robert Enmon said. However, the youth have not been connected to all the reported thefts during the holiday weekend. One of the victims was Orange County Sheriff Keith Merritt, who had fishing gear stolen from his 20-foot Skeeter parked at his house in the Cypress Bayou neighborhood. Hickory reliever Jake Lemoine picked up his third save of the season Saturday when he got Jose Gomez to fly out with two runners on. The Hickory Crawdads beat the Asheville Tourists 6-4. Lemoine, a Bridge City grad, pitches for the Crawdads are a Class A team located in Hickory, North Carolina. They are in the South Atlantic League, and have been a farm team of the Texas Rangers since 2009. SHERIFF’S REPORT 05/29/2017 Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. Thanks to all the veteran’s for their service. Had a car stolen in Kirbyville and it was located here in Newton County. The driver hit the woods on us. We spent several hours looking for him. No luck, but we know who he was. We are getting a warrant. Several people were floating down Big Cow Creek and got lost.
