Officer Saves Woman
On Sunday, February 2, 2025, at approximately 11:49 AM, the Vidor Police Department Dispatch Center received a call from a family member of a suicide in progress in the 2400 block of Hwy 12 in Vidor. The first officer on the scene, Sgt. Ethan Mansfield, arrived within 5 minutes to find a female victim that had an arterial laceration with a knife to her wrist and forearm. The victim had lost a significant amount of blood and was losing consciousness. Barbara Jean Roberts Welch
Born in September 1943, Barbara (a.k.a. Bobbie) was raised in Orange in a loving home with her parents and four sisters. Her parents gave each of the five “Roberts girls” nicknames and her nickname of Bobbie stuck with her through all these years. Bobbie was the 3rd of the five sisters. When asked, she’d always point out that she was only 10 minutes younger than her twin sister Beverly. David H. Thompson was born August 18, 1949, to Peter Thompson and Armanda Haskins-Thompson. A life-long resident of Orange, Texas, David graduated from Stark High School in 1968. While there, he was a member of the choir and played football. He also attended Lamar Institute of Technology and became a certified welder. For 23 years, he was employed with Gulf/Chevron Chemical as an operator and in the lab. An ordained Deacon, David served in various capacities within the church and community. Vann “Rambo” Byron Roson, a proud veteran and lifelong adventurer, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Vidor Health and Rehab. A native of Dallas, TX, Vann was a longtime resident of the Dallas area before making Vidor his home. Vann served his country with honor in both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army National Guard during the Vietnam conflict.
