Game Wardens Uncover Illegal White-Tailed Deer Smuggling Operation
Texas Game Wardens have concluded an investigation that led to the arrest and conviction of two individuals involved in illegally moving captive white-tailed deer. A South Texas deer breeder and his business partner were caught attempting to smuggle seven deer from a licensed deer breeding facility in East Texas through Montgomery County to Brazoria and Duval counties, where they intended to illegally release the deer into the wild on private property. Bobcat Tennis Plays In Beaumont
The Orangefield Bobcat Freshmen and JV teams competed in the Legacy Tennis Tournament in Beaumont yesterday. After a foggy start to play, the sun came out, and 11 of 13 Bobcats won to open the day and advance into the main draw. The day saw one doubles team make the quarterfinals, four athletes advance to the semifinals, three compete in the finals, and two secure consolation wins. Thursday afternoon the Orange Fire Department was called to a marsh fire in the Cove Area. The fire spread quickly because of a brisk south wind and got within feet of the Moore/Odom Duck Preserve Building off DuPont Drive. Chief John Bilbo said they weren't sure of the cause. On Wednesday, local golf teams competed in the Anahuac Invitational, which was held at Eagle Point golf course, in Barbers Hill.
