The Orangefield Bobcats look primed and ready to defend their district title as the Bobcats demolished the New Waverly Bulldogs by a score of 45-9 Friday night at F.L. McClain Stadium to remain perfect on the young season. Early on it looked as if Orangefield might have trouble with New Waverly as the Bulldogs took the opening possession from its own 25-yard line and methodically marched the ball downfield to the Bobcats 20-yard line. An Orange, Texas, convicted felon has been charged with federal drug and firearms violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs. Mario Peeples, 35, was named in an indictment returned by a federal grand jury this week in the Eastern District of Texas charging him with being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime, and possession of a controlled substance on a premises where children are present. Nice tripletail can be caught running to the gulf. Some nice cobia and ling can also be caught running the rigs. James Wilbert Hagan, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away on September 2, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital after a brief battle with an illness. James was born on October 27, 1954, in Orange, Texas, to Wilbert and Dorothy (Taylor) Hagan. Welborn Lone Finalist At DISD
Monday night at the Deweyville School Board meeting, the board approved LaJuan Addison's intent to retire as Superintendent and have named Grady Welborn as the lone finalist for the job. Welborn will leave his current job as the principal of the Bridge City Middle School, a position he's held since 2022. Addison had taken the job at Deweyville in March 2022 and will be Superintendent Emeritus until May 2026.
