The Orangefield FFA CDE Judging Teams competed in the Sam Houston Area 9 Contest and the SFA Area 9 Contest. Results for those contests include: Livestock Judging placed 25th in a very competitive contest, Nursery Landscape placed 13th, Floriculture placed 11th, Land Judging placed 6th, and Vet Med placed 5th qualifying for State at Texas A&M in a few weeks. Deer Feeder Thief Arrested
An Orange County man is in jail after making the mistake of stealing in Jasper County. Jasper Co. Sheriff Chuck Havard said, "I’m happy to report that we arrested 50 year old Michael Hetzel of Vidor, for taking a deer feeder that didn’t belong to him on a hunting lease in south Jasper County. We went to his job and put handcuffs on him. He’s been charged him with theft and criminal trespass. Although he committed this theft in a mask and under the cover of darkness, it didn’t take us but a few minutes to identify him. Lydia Pinkins Smith, 72, of Orange, Texas, “took her final rest” as Lydia would have said, at Harbor Hospice Hospital in Beaumont, Texas, on April 10, 2025. A memorial service will be held on April 19th at 1 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Orange, Texas. Born in New Orleans, LA, on February 7, 1953, to the late Felton Pinkins, Sr. and the late Juanita Vaughn Pinkins, Lydia symbolizes her dedication and her life and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witness on August 26, 1966. Firefighters Battle Wind, Blaze
Monday afternoon firefighters from multiple agencies were called to a grassy field just off Hwy. 62 between Tulane and I-10. The wind from the south and low humidity moved the fire quickly but firefighters were able to get it contained after a couple of hours. by Sheriff Colton Havard Shooting:On Thursday, April 10, 2025, deputies with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting in the 1100 block of County Road 4076 in the Bon Wier community. Deputies immediately detained the suspect and began their investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed the incident stemmed from a case of family violence between a father and son.
