Former Orange County Precinct 4 Constable Matt Ortego has been hired as the new deputy for the Deweyville Independent School District.
Ortego brings over 19 years of law enforcement experience to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.
He also brings experience from the classroom. Ortego taught Criminal Justice at Silsbee HS from 2017-20.
Ortego, who has worked in Newton County before, also spent time in law enforcement with Jasper County, and Jefferson County.
