People in Orange will be voting on three positions on the city council as the At-Large Position No. 6 currently held by Larry Spears will be open.
City Council Tuesday called for the election of the at-large seat and salon owner Paul Burch filed for the position Wednesday morning.
Spears has filed to run for mayor and the city charter requires him to give up the No. 6 seat. The May 5 general election has the seats of mayor and Single Member District No. 1 open because their three-year terms have ended.
Orange has single-member districts and only people who live within a district may run for that council seat. Voters for a single-member district must live in the district.
Spears is holding an at-large position which is open to every qualifying citizen in the city and everyone may vote.
Filing for the other two seats started last week and Spears is the only person to file so far. Pat Pullen holds the Single Member-District 1 position.
Current mayor Jimmy Sims was not at Tuesday’s council meeting and Spears as mayor pro tem presided. Sims was also not at the previous council meeting.
