AThe driver of an 18-wheel truck rig went to a hospital with minor injuries early Sunday morning after a collision with a large pickup truck by the LCM Mart, 8270 Highway 87 North.
The driver of the pickup truck was ejected after the pickup went into a ditch and was stopped by the dirt embankment. Orange police said he refused treatment at the scene.
Police reported the driver of the Ford F-350 pickup truck was 21-year-old Ronnie Brooks of Orange. The investigating officer said the pickup pulled out from the convenience store parking lot onto the highway in front of the 18-wheeler.
The driver of the 18-wheel rig was 32-year-old Kendall T. Abram of Gabriel, Louisiana. Police said he hit his brakes when the pickup pulled out, but the rig still hit the pickup. The pickup spun clockwise and went into the ditch.
The 18-wheel rig skidded off the roadway and went into the ditch across the highway. The embankment on the ditch stopped the truck. The trailer stopped across all lanes of the highway, blocking traffic in both directions.
Abram was taken by Acadian Ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Police report the pickup truck driver was given citations for no operator’s license, failure to maintain insurance, expired registration, and failure to yield right-of-way.
