A man was arrested Friday afternoon in connection with firing two gunshots, one at a house and one at a man who chased after him.
Orange police had a 911 call about 4:30 p.m. Friday to a house in the 1200 block of Tenth Street. A woman living at the house said two men and a woman came to the house looking to fight her son.
She said she told them to leave. As they walked away, one of the men fired a pistol and the bullet hit the wood on the front porch. A man at the house then went after the group as they walked toward Curtis Avenue. He told police the man with the firearm pointed it at him and fired, but he was not hit.
A patrol officer said when he was at Tenth Street and Burton Avenue, he saw a man matching the assailant’s description walking with others eastbound on Burton. He stopped the man and had him lie on the ground until he was handcuffed. The officer reported he did not find the firearm.
Tony Wayne Stevens of Orange was arrested for the second degree felony of aggravated assault and the third degree felony of deadly conduct-discharging a firearm.
Car burglars hit the Country Club Estates area Thursday night and stole guns along with other items. Orange Detective Captain Robert Enmon said someone went through neighborhoods trying door handles. If the vehicle is unlocked, the thieves simply get inside to steal. He said vehicle doors and guns should be secured.
Vehicle thefts were reported on Fairway Drive, Country Club Drive, Monterrey Drive, Melwood Drive, and Sunset Drive.
Also, a house break-in was reported on Encore Circle off Sunset Drive.
The police department is assigning extra patrols to the neighborhood.
