The annual Orange Means Safety event will be held Friday, June 8, at the Texas Travel Information Center in Orange. The Texas Department of Transportation operates the information center on Interstate 10 just east of Orange and sponsors the safety event.
Supervisor Manuel Ramon at the Travel Information Center said safety is the main emphasis for the event, but so is having fun learning about being safe. There will be wildlife to see up close from Texas Parks and Wildlife and from the Shangri La Botanical Gardens. There will be free food and drinks for everyone. An old western gunfight will be staged on the grounds.
A special ceremony during the Orange Means Safety event will be a ribbon cutting on the 650-foot boardwalk over the Blue Elbow Swamp at the back of the information center. The boardwalk has been re-furbished after flooding from Harvey with 11 new informational signs being installed. The Orange Means Safety event begins at 10:00 AM Friday and the ribbon cutting will follow shortly after it starts. The event runs until 2:00 PM.
