The Jefferson County Grand Jury handed down indictments recently. James Wilson Fields of Orange was indicted for possession of a controlled substance.
In September 2023, police attempted to stop Fields, 51, on 9th Ave. in Port Arthur for doing 40 mph in a 35 mph zone. According to the officer, Fields tried to evade the officer by traveling east on Jimmy Johnson Blvd. then north on Honeywood Trail.
The officer got Fields to stop. During a check of his license Fields had an extensive drug history. A search of his vehicle by a K9 alerted on clear plastic box with a magnet that was placed under the steering column. It contained 1.85 grams of meth. He was taken to for possession, a third degree felony.
