Two new businesses are in line to get City of Orange Economic Development Corporation incentive grants to help open.
The EDC Board of Directors and the Orange City Council Tuesday approved the first step for the businesses to get infrastructure grants.
The money comes from a special half-cent per dollar sales tax voters approved in 2002. The grants are made through reimbursements after the business has made the improvements.
Golden Chick, a fast food restaurant, will get up to $195,000 to cover things like concrete paving, masonry, and storm drainage. City Economic Development Director Jay Trahan said owner Karan Korpel plans to invest $1.1 million in the project at 1716 16th Street on the corner of Carter Street.
The other grant is for Tropical Vibes Daiquiries. Trahan said owner Raymond Mearis plans to spend $125,000 to $135,000 for the business at 1408 10th Street. Trahan said maximum $50,000 grant will halp pay for interior improvements.
