Orange at this time will not be getting a bike trail and parking lot at the Boat Ramp. Public Works Director Jim Wolf said the city did not get a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation for the trail.
Last April, the City Council in a split vote approved applying for the grant on the project that was estimated to cost $855,000. The city’s share of the cost would have been $98,000. The grant was for alternative transportation.
The bike trail was planned to start at the Simmons Drive Boat Ramp and an asphalt-paved parking lot with 150 spaces was in the design. The 6.2 mile bike path design had it going to the downtown cultural sites, the Old Orange Historic District and the Shangri La neighborhood.
The plan also included removing old sidewalks and replacing them with new ones.
