Sunday morning the National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Laura is approaching eastern Cuba, and will enter the Gulf of Mexico late Monday night or early Tuesday. It is forecast to strengthen to a category two hurricane (96-110mph) before landfall in southwest Louisiana late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. It’s worth noting the path of this storm has changed direction several times.
Meantime TS Marco (below) Tropical Storm Marco is near hurricane strength. It is forecast to make landfall in southeast Louisiana Monday as a category one hurricane. After landfall it will move across south central Louisiana as a tropical storm early Tuesday, and as a tropical depression across southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Orange County has sand and bags currently available at all precinct barns.
Precinct 1 County Maintenance barn located on North Highway 87 at North Teal Road.
Precinct 2 11897 State Highway 62 in Mauriceville directly across from Market Basket on Highway 62.
Precinct 3 County Maintenance barn located on 2502 West Roundbunch Road.
Precinct 4 County Maintenance barn located on 375 Claiborne Street.
Residents are welcome to bag the sand to use to protect their home from the possibility of rising water. Bring your own shovel.
In Pinehurst sand and bags will be available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday at the city’s public works department off Lexington Drive. Residents will need to bring shovels so they can fill their own bags.
