The Orange City Council on Tuesday will vote on awarding a $2.81 million contract for the sewage treatment improvements and on creating a social media coordinator’s position to work under Economic Development Director Jay Trahan.
The council will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers next to the Orange Public Library.
Public Works Director Jim Wolf in a letter to the council said the city’s engineering consultant Schaumburg and Polk recommends the bid of Allco of Beaumont for the sewage treatment system project. The bid of $2.86 million covers 29 different aspects of the project.
Trahan, who also serves as assistant city manager, is asking for the social media coordinator. He wrote a memo to City Manager Shawn Oubre saying “the job summery includes coordinating City-wide promotional activities using social media platforms such as Facebook Twitter (sic), and Instagram, to name a few examples.”
The job description designed by Trahan said the job duties will include gathering “information from City departments on announcements or events and posts on social media.” Also, the job duties include “responding to the public as needed.”
The salary ranges at $15.60 an hour. Based on a 40-hour work week, the salary would be $624 a week and $32,448 a year. A high school diploma or equivalent is required with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
After the City Council meeting on January 12, District 1 Councilor Pat Pullen told KOGT that the city will be communicating more through press releases. He made the comment when talking about his work with the Alliance Defending Freedom, a Christian legal group he consulted to try to get the Christmas manger scene moved back to City Hall after it was moved in December.
