The final meeting for 2020 was held by the City Council in Orange this morning. The council approved cancelling the second meeting for the month of December during the meeting.
On second reading the City of Orange approved terminating the Declaration of Disaster for Hurricane Laura which hit Orange in late August. The council will waive permit fees for repairs to property damaged during Laura for 90 days. The ordinance prohibiting recreational vehicles or travel trailers by a property owner was suspended for 90 days if their residence was damaged by the hurricane making it uninhabitable.
The recommendation by the Orange Economic Development Corporation of an incentive payment not to exceed $125,000 to the Tia Juanita’s restaurant was approved. The incentive payment is for infrastructure improvements to the facility in the old country club on Sunset Drive.
The City Council approved the finishing touches for two parks in the City of Orange. The Riverside Pavilion off of Simmons Drive only needs the architect to complete the punch list of items with the contractor. City Manager Mike Kunst said the park it almost ready for use by groups. “Hopefully once the sun starts coming out it in the Spring that it’ll be open for the public,” Kunst added.
Work is continuing to refurbish the playground in the Lions Club Park. It likewise is nearing completion and should be open for pubic use by early next year.
