City Manager Mike Kunst has been in his new job with the City of Orange for a little over a year. He came to Orange from his position as city manager in Vidor.
It was about the same time that Kunst was making his move that the City of Orange made a move itself. The longtime City Hall in downtown in an old home was moved to the former bank building in the business district.
The City Hall in Orange is now on 16th Street which is the main avenue into the city. City Manager Kunst said the new location has been a true life saver especially during the Coronavirus pandemic.
The building that previously housed a bank had drive-up windows, more offices, and a larger parking area. “We’ve been able to separate and social distance, I think we were blessed that we’ve been able to spread out at the City Hall and also been able to restrict the public coming in, but we’ve had those drive through lanes and that has been a blessing for us,” Kunst concluded.
The City Hall re-opened to the public this week. The building had been closed to the public since before Thanksgiving as a precaution against the holiday surge of COVID-19.
Services were available online, by the telephone, or at the drive through windows. All offices in the City Hall are now open to handle citizens’ needs in person.
