
The city of Orange had the most valuable construction project filed in April with the new water plant valued at $1.9 million. The plant is being built at 6524 Richard Street east of Highway 62 with Allco as the contractor.
Building permits issued for the month show the city continues to rebuild and repair months after Tropical Storm Harvey. The city council has waived building permit fees to fix Harvey damage.
Under residential permits, the city in April issued another 21 for Harvey repairs, plus four to install FEMA trailers and two for travel trailers needed outside damaged houses.
New house construction continues on with three permits worth a total of $612,085 being issued. Two of the houses are in the Cyresswood Village subdivision between Highway 87 South and FM 105. Both are valued at $215,375. The third house is being built on Quail Drive.
The largest commercial project is for remodeling of O’Reilly Auto Parts, 2947 16th Street. The project is listed at $70,625. In addition, a new $20,000 beauty shop is being built at 5311 North Highway 90.
Other commercial permits included more for Harvey repairs. Two of those were for repairs at city properties on Polk Street, one by Construction Corporation and the other by SpawGlass.
G&G Enterprises took out a permit for repairs to West Orange-Stark Middle School on Green Avenue. Other buildings being repaired were Old Orange Cafe on Division Avenue and Billing Services, LLC, at 1411 Green Avenue.
Commercial re-roofing projects were for a $59,000 project of the Slade Memorial Chapel and First United Methodist Church in downtown. Also, a business at 1601 16th Street is getting a new roof valued at $1,600.
Commercial mechanical for HVAC systems or repairs also included replacements for Harvey damage. Heritage House Museum on Division Avenue got a new $12,500 system and the Stark Foundation is getting a $150,000 system for Shangri La Botanical Gardens.
Six permits for residential re-roofing were issued for a total of $55,946. Three of those were to fix Harvey damage.
Six houses were demolished during the month. The addresses were 823 Henderson, two apartments at 3018 16th Street, 1704 17th Street, 1706 17th Street, and 1037 Clairmont.
Three residences took out permits for concrete work worth a total of $13,000. Two were for driveways and one for a patio.
Two homeowners will be chilling in new swimming pools this summer. The two pools are being built on Kitty Chapin Drive and Rue des Fleurs. Their total worth is $102,000.
