Contractors are still busy across the city of Orange as buildings are repaired from Tropical Storm Harvey, but new home construction led the total of building permits for the month of March.
Wheat Homes and DeLeon Construction each got permits for two new houses in the Cypresswood Village subdivision off Highway 87 South. The value of the four houses is a total of $742,752.
Wheat is building a $175,455 house at 1010 Cypresswood and another worth $198,175 at 1012 Cypresswood. DeLeon is building a $202,000 house at 4402 Persimmon and a $167,122 house at 600 Cypresswood.
The city also issued 19 permits for residential repairs related to Harvey along with one permit for a FEMA trailer. The city has not been charging permit fees to repair storm-related damage.
Commercial construction was led by re-roofing projects and concrete projects. The re-roofings were Little Cypress Junior High Tech Building, along with Best Western Hotel, 2245 Highway 62, with a roof worth $45,465, and Orange Inn and Suites, 2900 Interstate 10 with a roof valued at $90,000. In addition, Orange Christian Services is getting a new roof valued at $19,000.
Three commercial contracts for concrete work were issued for a total of $126,000. Sixth Street Community Church is getting an $87,000 new parking lot. The Stark Foundation got a permit for 725 15th Street to install a $23,000 concrete pad for dumpsters, and Oscar LeBlanc got a $16,000 contract for 102 Farragut to install a slab, ramp and handrail.
Michael J. Rhines received a commercial permit worth $24,000 for a 12-foot-by-25-foot addition to a busiiness at 1111 Green Avenue.
Commercial mechanical permits for HVAC-related systems totaled $132,176 for three businesses. Fox Run Apartments, 2600 Allie Payne Road, is getting a new system worth $88,776, and the new County Bancshares construction, 4039 Interstate 10, is getting a system valued at $39,500. The office of Dr. Nick Pomonis, 3306 Ridgemont Drive, is getting $3,900 worth of mechanical work.
Three residential permits were issued for house leveling at a totaling $12,400. In addition, a house at 1502 Cherry Avenue in the Old Orange Historic District is getting a $41,300 remodel by Jack Built.
Five permits for residential storage buildings valued at a total of $17,629 were listed in March.
Commercial demolition permits were issued for 1809 Simmons Drive and 607 Second Street, and residential demolitions were permitted at 3550 Bob Hall Road and 1306 Cherry Avenue.
