Caroline Mazzola Hennigan has filed to run for the Orange City Council in the At-Large Position 5 seat currently held by Bill Mello. All registered voters in the city limits are able to cast a ballot in the race.
David C. Bailey, a former Orange County Sheriff’s Office chief deputy, filed for the same spot earlier in the week.
Mello has indicated he plans to file to run again. However, he is currently in a Houston hospital and is set to have brain surgery next week.
Mello, who owns a plumbing company and numerous properties around town, has served on the council since 2010. He is eligible to run for one more three-year term.
Brad Childs has filed to run for re-election to his Single-Member District 2 seat. The district is basically the Little Cypress area.
Mary McKenna has filed to run for the Single-Member District 4, which includes the Old Orange Historic District and the Cove area. The incumbent, Annette Pernell has not filed as of Friday. McKenna has previously served on the council.
