Orange police stopped a suspect from getting away after she tried to cash a fake check with a fake ID at Market Basket on Sunday.
Officer D.A. Dorman reported Market Basket personnel called police about 11:44 p.m. to say someone had tried to cash a fraudulent check of $1,602.24 made out to a “Baylee Lynn Wheeler.”
Police described the check as being on thin paper, but it included banking numbers.
The person who tried to cash the check left the parking lot in a white Volkswagen traveling southbound. Police stopped a white Volkswagen about two blocks south of Market Basket.
Officer Dorman said the passenger in the car was wearing the same clothing described at Market Basket. He also found a fake ID for “Baylee Lynn Wheeler.”
38-year-old Jessica Ann Bartz of Orange was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail. She could face a state jail felony charge.
A 33-year-old man was taken to a Beaumont hospital after being injured when his pickup truck ran into a guardrail on an Interstate 10 feeder road Saturday morning.
The crash was about 7:40 a.m. Friday in the 8900 block of the feeder road near North Lewis Lane. Orange police report Alexander Thomas Beckham of Orange was driving a 1997 Ram 1500 pickup truck in the right lane. A vehicle traveling in front of him slowed to turn right onto Lewis Lane.
Police said the pickup was traveling too fast to stop. The driver swerved to miss the other vehicle and ran into a guardrail.
Police reported the driver had non-life-threatening injuries and he was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital by a Orange Fire Department medical truck.
