
Four outside air conditioning units were stolen from an apartment complex last week. Orange police began investigating after the theft was noticed late Friday morning.
Officers went to the Linkwood Garden Apartments at 11:30 a.m. Friday after the manager called. She said a tenant had complained on Tuesday about his apartment not cooling. When the repair company arrived Friday, the discovered four different outside units had the lines cut and the units removed from the cement pads.
Orange has had numerous air conditioning thefts during the summer. Often the units are stripped and sold for scap metal. Anyone with information about stolen air conditions should contact the Orange Police Department Detective Division at 409-883-1095.
Two people were arrested for methamphetamine-related charges after being stopped by police in separate traffic offenses.
Officer M.S. McDonald reported he stopped a car at 9:45 p.m. Friday on Highway 62 at Interstate 10. He saw the car traveling north Highway 62 with a defective third brake light.
He reported the driver, 51-year-old Ricky Joe Freeland of Orangefield, had an outstanding arrest warrant for possession of a dangerous drug. After learning of the warrant, the officer arrested the man. While searching the man’s front left pocket, the officer found a plastic baggie with 2.5 grams of methamphetamine.
Freeland was taken to the Orange County Jail and now faces a third degree felony charge of possession in addition to the previous charge.
A 32-year-old Mauriceville woman was arrested late Saturday night for possession of a methamphetamine and ecstacy.
Officer D.A. Dorman reported he was patrolling in the Roselawn neighborhood about 11:30 p.m. Saturday when he saw a car fail to signal a turn before 100 feet.
After stopping the car, he found a glass pipe used to smoke meth in a cigarette carton. In addition, the officer reported finding a black bag in the back of the car. Inside was a zipper bag with the words “Adventure Awaits.” The bag had several syringes, one with meth inside, plus small baggies with meth, and a baggie with eight colored pills of ecstacy.
32-year-old Sky Auburn Mitchell of Mauriceville was arrested and faces a state jail felony charge along with a third degree felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.
