A man from Orange was injured early Saturday morning when the car he was driving went off an Interstate 10 frontage road and hit a road sign along with a group of trees.
33-year-old Orenthal James Simpson was taken by Acadian Ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Orange police reported his injuries were “non-incapacitating.”
The crash was about 2 a.m. Saturday in the 3000 block of South Lutcher Drive about a half mile east of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Police said he was driving a Mercury Montego eastbound in the right-hand lane. For an unknown reason, the car went off the roadway, hit a TxDOT speed limit sign and the trees. Police said the crash caused front end damage and the front passenger door came off. The driver received tickets for no driver’s license and no insurance.
Two burglaries were reported to Orange police during the weekend. A man living in an RV in a park at 333 Lutcher Drive called police Saturday afternoon. He said he had accidentally left the door to his RV unlocked. A gray Remington 7mm bolt action rifle was stolen along with a brown .243 semi-automatic rifle, and a .32 caliber police special revolver.
Sunday morning about 9, a man building a new house off the 7800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive reported someone took power tools from the house. The building had been left unlocked, but the gates to the fenced property had been locked, according to police.
Also Sunday, a man reported he lost a handgun at Blue Bird Fish Camp about 8:30 p.m. Friday. The man said he had the Taurus PG semi-automatic because of hogs. He went to the restroom and left the pistol on top of his vehicle. He then drove away and lost the gun.
