A shoplifter made a clean getaway from a dollar store on 16th Street Saturday afternoon. Police report he got bottles of fabric softener, detergent, and detergent pods.
Officers went to the Family Dollar, 1301 16th Street, about 1 p.m. Saturday. The store manager said a man wearing a gray shirt and dark pants got a shopping cart and put the items in it. Then he pushed it out of the store without paying for the goods. He drove southward in a white, four-door Cadillac sedan.
Police went to the area around Church and l7th Street Friday evening because of reports of gunshots. A patrol oficer said a man told him another man threatened to shoot him and then fired a gun into the air three times. No arrest was made.
On Saturday afternoon, officers arrested a 20-year-old man at the Palm Garden Apartments, 1727 37th Street. Jeffery Wayne Sias Jr. faces charges of aggravated assault with a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Another man was arrested for misdemeanor warrants from the Orange Municipal Court.
A $300 Yeti cooler was reported stolen Saturday from the yard of a house in the Charlemont subdivision. Police went to the 2300 block of Manley Circle. The homeowner said the 45-quart tan Yeti was missing.
A woman motorist Saturday night got a man who fell asleep at the wheel of his pickup truck to turn off the ignition and hand her the keys.
The woman told police the pickup had almost hit her vehicle on Highway 87 South at FM 105. She said the eastbound truck had been “all over the road.” The woman called 911 about 9:45 p.m. to report the driver.
When she reached the traffic light on Edgar Brown Drive at Bluebonnet Drive, she saw the Dodge Ram truck stopped at the light with the driver asleep.
By time police arrived, the woman was standing by the truck and had the keys in her hand.
Police report Ryan Edward Brown of Orange was arrested for driving under the influence, third or more offense, which turns into a felony.
