On July 27, 2020, at approximately 8:08 P.M., Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Strickland Drive and Edgar Brown in reference to a traffic accident.
Upon arrival, Officers observed three vehicles to be involved, a red 2018 Hyundai Elantra, a gray 2013 Dodge Charger and a 2020 Jeep Gladiator.
The investigation revealed the driver of the Hyundai, Willie Charles Johnson, 50, of Orange, appeared to have had a medical emergency as he was driving east on Edgar Brown. The other two vehicles were stopped at the red light, facing east.
Johnson’s vehicle drove between the Jeep and the Charger, striking both vehicles before coming to rest on the side of the roadway on MacArthur Drive, just east of the intersection of Strickland and Edgar Brown.
Johnson was unconscious and unresponsive when Officers arrived. CPR was immediately initiated, but Johnson was unable to be revived. Justice of the Peace for Precinct 3 Judge Joy Dubose-Simonton arrived on scene and pronounced Johnson deceased. Judge Dubose-Simonton ordered an autopsy to be performed and Johnson was transported to the Jefferson County morgue by Shaver’s Mortuary Transportation Service. The investigation is ongoing.
