Heritage House Museum will have a reception Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. for a new exhibit featuring fishing and water sports in Orange County. The exhibit includes items on loan from the family of the late Captain Dickie Colburn, a well-known fishing guide, and from Shari Spradling, whose parents founded the Aqua Demons and Debs acrobatic water-skiing group.
The display is in the downstairs of the Williams Building, a 1920s cottage that was moved to the site about 10 years ago after it was removed from the site of the new downtown fire station. The small exhibit features photographs, old fishing equipment, antique lures and poles, and even a pair of 1950s water skis.
Adam Conrad, president of the Heritage House board of directors, said the museum wanted to display some of the county’s long history with the rivers, bayous, and Sabine Lake. The exhibit is being held at the same time as the Bassmasters professional fishing tournament here, which will open next week.
No admission fee will be charged to see the exhibit and it will be available for viewing during the museum’s regular operating hours, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. People should check in at the museum’s administration office, behind the two-story Sims house, which faces Division Avenue.
Heritage House Museum complex is at 901 West Division Avenue, west of the Orange County Courthouse. Call 409-886-5385 for more information.
