Bobcat Tennis was back in action last Friday as they competed in the Memorial High School Tournament at the Beaumont Tennis Center.
The weather was awesome and so was the play of Orangefield’s Varsity Tennis team as they competed in a large tournament filled with some of the top teams in the area along with many of their district rivals.
The Bobcats had a few sophomores make their “big league” debuts with Harper Hunt and Ella Sanders advancing to the consolation final against fellow Bobcats, Olivia Smith and Kenli Vacek. Bri Thibodeaux stepped in to help Smith after Vacek’s exit for her softball game, so the all-Orangefield medal match will be played at practice this week.
The mixed doubles team of Ava Walker and Adam Tsan took down teams from Lumberton and PNG on their way to their third finals showdown with Hamshire-Fannett this season.
Walker & Tsan found themselves up a set early, but wound up losing a heartbreaking third set tiebreaker 10-8 to take 2nd in the A division.
The standout performer of the day was Sophomore, Cane Ritchey who made it back to the finals in A Singles for the first time since early in the year. Cane defeated Bridge City’s Gavin Hartje to win his first varsity tournament of his young career. After taking his lumps his freshmen season in the areas top division, Ritchey, seems to be playing his best tennis with district play a little over a week away.
Wish the Bobcats luck as they play a their last regular season tourney of the year next Thursday!
