The Orangefield School Board met during the first week of April. Superintendent Dr. Stephen Patterson informed the school trustees of a record high enrollment of approximately 1800 students for the Orangefield Independent School District.
The superintendent said that is good news for the district. “You love to see lots of students coming to your door because it tells you you’re doing good things, and people want to be a part of that. However, there are a lot of things we have to do to accommodate the kids so we’ve got a number of summer projects that we’ll have to take on,” Patterson admitted.
A top priority according to Dr. Patterson is an overall facility study to get a firm grasp of what needs to be done to accommodate this kind of growth for the district. Details of what needs to be done for the schools in the Orangefield district will be clearer following the facilities study, but should include painting, refurbishing, and expansion of some buildings Patterson concluded.
