On Sunday, February 2, 2025, at approximately 11:49 AM, the Vidor Police Department Dispatch Center received a call from a family member of a suicide in progress in the 2400 block of Hwy 12 in Vidor.
The first officer on the scene, Sgt. Ethan Mansfield, arrived within 5 minutes to find a female victim that had an arterial laceration with a knife to her wrist and forearm. The victim had lost a significant amount of blood and was losing consciousness.
Chief Rod Carroll said, “Mansfield immediately removed his tourniquet and began to place it on the victim to control the bleeding. He next applied a clotting bandage and trauma dressing (Israeli bandage) to her wrist and forearm to further control the bleeding. The victim was transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in critical condition by Acadian Ambulance Service.”
The Vidor Police Department will commend Mansfield for his Life Saving Actions on Thursday, February 13, at 1:30.
