From the “You can’t make this stuff up” Department, West Orange officers responded to Porky’s Convenience Store on Hwy. 87 Sunday night for a possible intoxicated driver in the parking lot.
Officers made contact with a man in his black Honda and they immediately detected a strong odor of an an alcoholic beverage. There was also an open can of Bud Light in the vehicle.
The man, identified as Marlon Lopez, was on his phone and he said he was talking to his wife. The officer agreed that his wife could come and pick him up and while waiting for her, Lopez asked to go inside and use the restroom.
The officer waited but Lopez never came back nor did his wife ever show up. The officer went into the restroom and no one was there, but a ceiling tile was found on the floor. The officer requested a ladder and began to lift several tiles in the store trying to find Lopez.
After considerable effort, Lopez was found asleep on some pipe that was located over the beer cooler. He was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail for Public Intoxication.
