An Orange patrol officer was bruised, scratched and had two bumps on his head after being attacked by a man who had caused a disturbance at the police station.
Detective Captain Robert Enmon said L. Lovelace is recuperating after being treated at an emergency room, but the officer was not seriously injured.
54-year-old Isaac Hudson Jr. of Orange was arrested by other officers who stopped the fight. Hudson faces a felony charge of assault on a public servant.
Officer P.H. McDonald reported Lovelace was called to the police station at 11:14 a.m. Monday because of a man causing a disturbance at the police station, 201 Eighth Street. Lovelace on the police radio said he saw the man at the corner of Eighth Street and Green Avenue, two buildings down from the police station.
McDonald said Lovelace said he was going to contact the man. Officers could then hear a struggle over the police radio and Lovelace would not answer.
Officers immediately went to the site. McDonald said when he arrived, other officers had Hudson on the ground and Officer Lovelace was bleeding on the side of his face and had two large bumps on his forehead.
Lovelace told McDonald that when he began talking to the man, the man picked him up and threw him onto the concrete. The man then began to pummel the officer with punches to the face.
Detective Captain Robert Enmon said “It was only about a ten second fight, but it was intense.”
Police reported Hudson had four misdemeanor city of Orange warrants issued for his arrest. One was for public intoxication, one for failure to identify to a police officer, and the other two were failure to appear for court.
Officer McDonald reported the arrested man continued to threaten and curse at law officers after being taken to the Orange County Jail. There he had to be restrained by several officers and placed in a restraining chair.
