The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is once again warning about a phone scam telling people they will be arrested unless they pay a fine or make bond.
Investigator Janois Grizzaffi said the office had several citizen calls about the scam on Saturday.
A man calling himself “Lieutenant Jacobs” calls and says the person either has an arrest warrant or has failed to appear for jury duty. The person is asked to meet in a parking lot to pay, or to give a credit or debit card number over the phone.
The calls are coming from a number identified as 409-267-1679.
Grizzaffi said the sheriff’s office does not make calls like the scam. If anyone receives a questionable call, they can contact the real sheriff’s office at 409-883-2612.
