The post-Harvey spending has dropped across Orange County as all entities are getting less in sales tax payments for the month of December 2018 compared to December 2017.
After Hurricane Harvey flooded the county in late August 2017, sales taxes dramatically increased as people had to rebuild and replace. The spending sprees have ended.
The Texas Comptroller’s Office has sent tax payments to the cities, county, and the only special district with a sales tax. The payments covering December sales are:
Bridge City (1.5 percent tax): $164,471 for the month compared to $184,596 for the same month in 2017, a decrease of 11.27 percent. $294,975 for the year to date, compared to $332,468 last year, a decrease of 10.9 percent.
Orange (1.5 percent tax): $505,106 for the month compared to $547,079 for the same month in 2017, a decrease of 7.67 percent. $872,184 for the year to date, compared to $996,680 last year, a decrease of 12.49 percent.
Pinehurst (1.5 percent tax): $71,711 for the month compared to $75,214 for the same month in 2017, a decrease of 4.6 percent. $123,115 for the year to date, compared to $130,415 last year, a decrease of 5.59 percent.
Vidor (1.5 percent tax): $229,557 for the month compared to $321,283 for the same month in 2017, a decrease of 6.76 percent. $547,177 for the year to date, compared to $588,249 last year, a decrease of 1.88 percent.
West Orange (1.25 percent tax): $128,683 for the month compared to $149,385 for the same month in 2017, a decrease of 13.85 percent. $227,156 for the year to date, compared to $259,995 for last year, a decrease of 12.63 percent.
Orange County: (0.5 percent tax): $486,143 for the month compared to $521,823 for the same month in 2017, a decrease of 6.83 percent. $942,089 for the year to date, compared to $965,114 for last year, a decrease of 2.38 percent.
Emergency District No. 3 (Little Cypress Fire and Rescue) (1.5 percent tax): $17,984 for the month, compared to $20,607 for the same month in 2017, a decrease of 12.72 percent. $34,705 for the year to date, compared to $35,102 for last year, a decrease of 1.13 percent.
