
Orange County Health Inspector visited 30 food-related businesses during February and the latter part of January. The lowest score was a 76 for the Sonic, 2210 Highway 62 South, with demerits including “heavy mold” in the ice machine. Scales advised the fast food outlet needed “lots of cleaning and maintenance.”
Schools with perfect scores are Bridge City Elementary, Bridge City Intermediate, Pine Forest Elementary, West Orange-Stark Elementary, Little Cypress Intermediate, and Little Cypress Learning. Businesses with perfect scores were Lollipop Stop Children’s Center in Vidor and Gina C’s Catering in Vidor.
Pre-opening inspections with no scores were made at Do You Charcuterie in Vidor, Tacos La Shula in Orange, Luigi’s Italian Grill in Orange, Kona Ice, BBQ and Cajun Too mobile unit in Vidor, Sunrise Donuts in West Orange, and Big Daddy’s Food Truck in Orange.

Sonic, 2210 Highway 62 South in Orange: 76. Foods inside the reach-in cooler were not at proper temperatures and inspector ordered them discareded. Foods inside the reach-in cooler and freezer needed to be covered. Women’s restrooms did not have hot water. Both employee restroooms did not have paper towels. Walk-in cooler door did not close completely. Gasket was needed on reach-in cooler. Employee drinks were stored improperly. Outsides of equipment and storage shelves needed to be cleaned. Lights were not working. Light shields were needed throughout. Dumpster area had grease and trash. Floors and walls throughout needed to be cleaned. Floor grout was missing. Heavy mold was on ice machine. Mold was near air vents. Employee restrooms needed to be cleaned and sanitized. Current food service permit and certified food manager certificate were not posted in front. Bottom of back door needed to be resealed.
Sun Wok II, 2429 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 81. Mice feces were found in back storage room. Mold was on walls in back storage area. No certified food manager or food handler certificates were found. Dates were needed on products inside coolers and freezers. Paper towels were needed at the handwashing station. Vents in storage room needed to be ble. Onrepaired. Wiping cloths were on prep table. Onions stored on the floor. Outside of storage containers and equipment needed to be cleaned. Lights in storage room needed to be repaired. Area outside the back door needed to be repaired. Floors and walls needed to be cleaned. Vent-a-Hood needed to be cleaned of old grease. Certified food manager certificate and current health inspection report not posted in front. Meat was defrosting inside bucket of water. Inspector recommened more general cleaning and daily cleaning.
Fast Stop Food Store, 2410 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 86. Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. Ice scoopwas on top of reach-in freezer. Mold was inside ice machine. Inside of cappuccino machine needed cleaning. Hot water was needed in employee restroom. Reach-in freezer gasket needed replacing. Drinks were stored on the floor. Floors in back storage room needed to be cleaned. Employee restroom needed paper towels. Current health inspection report was not posted.
Judice’s Cajun Cafe, 2045 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 88. Shrimp were out of proper temperature. A few raw, molded vegetables were inside walk-in cooler. Employees needed hair restraints. Crabs were defrosting in a bucket of water near the handwashing sink. Vent-a-Hood needed to be cleaned of old greast. Dumpster needed to be cleaned of old construction material. Floors throughout needed to be cleaned. Ceiling tiles were damaged. Current health inspection report and certified food manager certificate were not posted in front.
High Tides Restaurant, 3109 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 91. Several ice scoops were on top of ice machine. Several sinks in the boil house and oyster house did not have hot water. Inspector ordered immediate repairs for all sinks to have hot and cold running water. Handwashing sink inside boil house was used for handwashing and food preparations. Ceiling tiles were damaged in the oyster bar area.
Cajun Ventures, 1925 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 93. Ice scoop was on top of ice. Dates were needed on products. Utensils were stored incorrectly inside storage bucket. Outside smokehouse needed to be cleaned and ashes disposed of properly.
The Nutrition Spot, 868 North Main Street in Vidor: 94. Ice scoop was on top of ice inside the machine. Another ice scoop was on top of machine. Handwashing station needed soap. Employees needed hair restraints. Current food service permit, food manager certificates, and current health inspection report were not posted in front.
Tacos Baja, mobile unit in Vidor: 94. Shelled eggs were not a proper temperatures. Door to reach-in cooler did not close completely. Current food service permit, food manager certificate, and current health inspection report were not posted in front.
Golden Triangle Nutrition, 2496 MLK Drive: 96. Dishes were not being sanitized at three-compartment sink. Ice scoop was on top of ice inside ice machine. Scented bleach was used to clean foot prep areas. Untensils were stored improperly in storage container.
Tekoa Academy, 1408 West Park Avenue in Orange: 96. Window inside kitchen was boarded up because of damage. Inspector required immediate repair. Mice feces found inside storage cabinets. Faucet at three-compartment sink needed repairs. Ceiling tiles were damaged. Water was dripping from ceiling tiles and coolers were put on the floor to catch the water.
Ricky’s Crawfish Hole, 2675 Texas Avenue: 97. Non-food grade sanitizer was being used on food contact surfaces. Roof repairs were needed after Hurricane Laura.
Vidor Nutrition, 1140 North Main Street in Vidor: 99. Hair restraints were needed.
The Pink Lady, 6111 16th Street in Orange: 99. Current food service permit, current certified food manager permit, and current health inspection report were not posted in front.
