Orange County Health Inspector James Scales temporarily shut down departments in the West Orange Walmart in February because of a lack of hot water in the deli, bakery, and restrooms. The shut-down on February 1 lasted 10 hours until new water heaters were installed.
He reported he visited the store after receiving a complaint. He did not make a full inspection and allowed the departments to re-open after hot water was returned.
Scales went to 34 food-related businesses during February. The lowest score was a 68 for the Sun Wok restaurant on Texas Avenue in Bridge City. He cited problems like food at unsafe temperatures, black mold on walls, no soap and paper towels at the hand-washing station, plus mice and roach feces in the storage room.
Five businesses earned perfect scores with no demerits. The inspector also made three pre-opening inspections with no scores.
The perfect scores went to the Orange County Jail, Circle K Kiddie Ranch on Highway 62 in Orange, Bright Beginnings Learning Center in Vidor, Main Street Seafood in Vidor, and Lollipop Stop Children’s Center in Vidor.
The pre-opening inspections were for the remodeled McDonald’s on Highway 62 in Orange, Greek Gyros on Texas Avenue in Bridge City, and The Stuffed Mushroom Kitchen on Strickland Drive in Pinehurst.
