Orange County Health and Code Compliance Director James Scales visited a number of establishments recently and scores of 100 were given to Pine Forest Elementary, the Orange County Jail, Quality Inn & Suites in BC, and First Baptist Church on MLK.
On the other end several establishments were found to be in need of improvements.
Church’s Chicken on 16th St. received an 83. Scales found timers not set for cooked chicken, cooked corn being stored in hot water with other bags of food, no sanitizer being used to clean food prep areas, a large amount of grease build up, broken or missing tiles and grout throughout, dates needed on all products inside cooler, and several pieces of equipment needed repairing. It was also reported that there was a baby in a stroller behind the fryers and that no children were allowed to be in the kitchen or food prep areas.
Pinehurst BBQ on Strickland received an 84. Raw meat was found stored improperly in cooler; food needed to be dated inside cooler; mold found on the ice machine; damaged wall in the kitchen needs to be repaired and ventahood, shelves, walls, floors and ceilings need cleaning throughout.
