Orange County recently inspected 27 food establishments which not only includes restaurants but any place that sells food such as convenient stores, food trucks and dollar stores.
Four of the establishments received a perfect 100, lead by Chick-Fil-A in Orange. Also receiving no violations were T&Z’s Soul Food food truck, AR & Sons Tamales in West Orange, and Broken Leaf Team Co. in Vidor.
Minor infractions and scores between 96-99 went to Wendy’s in Orange, Family Dollar on Strickland, 1 Stop in Vidor, Express Mart #21 on Hwy. 62, KFC in Orange, Fat Boys BBQ in BC, and Marksmenz Grill food truck.
Scores of 90-95 went to Mr. Burger & Seafood in Orange, McDonald’s in BC, Crawdads on 1442, Kwick Stop on 16th St, CBS Catering/Dow Cafeteria, Zapco Food Mart on Hwy. 62, and Sammy’s Taqueria in BC. Most of the violations included expired foods and extra cleaning needed.
Leading the lower scores was Chili’s in Orange with an 82 where the inspector found more than 10 violations. Besides “lots” of cleaning, food was found out of proper temperature, black mold in the ice machine, door to freezer did not close, outdated food, and water dripping from pipes. The inspector made a 24 hour follow up and reported progress had been made.
IB Cheapers in Mauriceville received an 85. Found were expired milk products, mold in the ice machine and outside plumbing not connected to building with wastewater disposed directly to the ground. Dead roaches found throughout.
Sonic Drive Inn in Vidor received an 86 where the inspector reported at lease eight violations. The prep table had standing water and was leaking onto the floor. Also a floor drain was stopped up and walk-in cooler door needs repair. The inspector made a 24 hour follow up and reported progress had been made.
The Fastline Store on Strickland in Orange received and 88. Expired food and gnats found around drinking machine. Several pieces of broken and/or unused equipment in store and no hot water inside employee restroom.
The Texas Country Store at 16th and I10 scored an 89 with mold in the ice machine, drinks being stored directly on floor, dead roaches, and employee bathroom in need of cleaning and sanitizing.
There were also four new businesses that were given approval to operate. Those businesses include Mike’s Diner in Orange, Warrior Gas in Vidor, El Rey Del Taco in Mauriceville, and Tha Grub Bus in Pinehurst.
