For the most part Orange County was spared as heavy rain, thunderstorms, and a powerful tornado hit the Southeast Texas area Saturday afternoon.
A large tornado started around Dickinson, Texas according to TSC and skirted the Texas coastline into Louisiana, barely missing the city of Port Arthur. The photo from Entergy shows damage on Hwy. 124 (beach road). The photos below are on/near Need More Rd. in Jefferson County.
Entergy reported more than 16,000 customers were without power after the tornado and storm came through. The hardest hit counties include Galveston, Jefferson, Tyler and Montgomery with high winds, lightning and downed vegetation as the contributing factors. Crews are working throughout the night. There were only 120 outages reported in Orange County.
By midnight those numbers were cut significantly but Entergy says power will be out in the Bolivar Peninsula at least two days along with Hwy. 124 as crews continue clean up.
The National Weather Service will begin their investigation as to the number of tornadoes and their severity on Sunday.
