The delinquent tax law firm hired by the local taxing entities has announced that they have begun the process of preparing a partial list of the delinquent taxpayers for purposes of publishing in the local media. The list will be randomly generated from all delinquent tax accounts across Orange County and will not be based upon dollar amounts. The list will be compiled from public information and will include the name of the assessed party and the total amount owed on their property. Once compiled the list will be submitted to local news organizations so that the names can be published. The law firm indicated that there were several reasons for publishing this public information. “Like it or not, as property owners it is our obligation to support our local government by paying our share of the tax burden. If you fail or refuse to do that then the Texas Property Tax Code provides legal consequences. Our law firm will use all of those legal tools to insure that each property owner pays their share.”
Taxpayers that believe that their name might appear on this list should take immediate action to insure that it is not published. The law firm recently mailed demand letters to all area delinquent taxpayers advising them of their outstanding tax balance and requesting payment. “If you think you might be on this list and you don’t want your name to appear in the press then please contact the Orange County Tax Office and take care of it.” The list is expected to be ready for publication in several weeks and payment of your delinquent taxes can be made in person at either the Tax Office in Orange at 123 S.6th Street or in Vidor at 155 Wilson, online at http://www.co.orange.tx.us or by mail to P.O. Box 1568, Orange 77631-1568.
