At approximately 1pm Monday, it was reported that a call threatening gun violence came in to Orangefield High School. The caller claimed to be near the campus.
All campuses were immediately put on lockdown and local authorities began arriving less than five minutes after the Sheriff’s Dept. was notified. Orangefield also has armed marshals on the property.
Highway 105 in front of the school was also shut down. Minutes before the call came in, the school had announced they were releasing early for inclement weather so the situation was a little chaotic.
All available law enforcement between Vidor and West Orange were on scene and cleared the area building by building before allowing the students to get on buses and then to leave in other vehicles.
“We take these threats very seriously and the investigation is underway,” said OISD Superintendent Dr. Shaun McAlpin. “And what a response by law enforcement. They were amazing.” The all clear came in at approximately 2:20pm.
